Creative

Creative writing was the foundation of my editorial services company. While I was working on my Master’s degree in creative writing from San Francisco State University, I began workshopping my peers’ stories and poems. Workshopping turned into developmental editing and copy editing, and Cranky Editor was born.

In addition to developing fiction and nonfiction books for publishers, editors and authors, I’ve published a few things of my own. For Que, I wrote Plan a Fabulous Party … In No Time, and for Ravenous I penned The Sensual Bath. My short stories and poetry have been published in Virgin Fiction, Silent Voices and Transfer, the literary journal of SFSU.

Building a strong creative community is important to me. I was the Literary Arts Editor at SF Station for two years, reporting on Bay Area literary happenings, writing book reviews and mentoring a talented group of freelance writers. I currently lead a creative writing workshop in Los Angeles.

When I edit creative work, I delve into the deepest level of it, shaping the book until it becomes what it was meant to be and using your voice to tell your story. If you hire me to edit your creative work, you’ll receive a clean, tight, polished manuscript ready for self-publishing or submitting to agents and publishers.

If you’d like me to edit your book, lead a workshop or pitch you a story, please email me at tamar@crankyeditor.com.
