SAMPLE RESUME
Vice President, Engineering

TARGET

For the last three years, I've worked with Inventa Technology Corporation, acting as project manager/client partner for a number of executive-level implementation and development projects. Prior to that, I managed my own software engineering consulting firm. Now, I'm ready to take on the role of VP Engineering.

Position: VP Engineering
Industries: Medical, health, technology
Status: Bay Area only. US citizen.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

  • I've been a software engineer for over 22 years, developing, creating, delivering and tinkering with the most challenging projects I could get my hands on.
  • For 15 years, I managed huge projects involving big-time bucks ... $1.6 billion was my top contract. Can you say "accountability"?
  • Broke free and started my own software consulting business, which I owned and operated for 14 years.
  • Spent the last 13 years whipping people into shape: engineers, executives, QA team, techies, subcontractors and anyone else needed managing.
  • Enjoyed all 4 years of the tech boom; I didn't get rich, but I got to play with some really cool e-commerce/B2B/Web technology.
  • Spent 2 years on a resort in the Canary Islands ... uh, I mean I have 2 years of international project management experience.

EXPERIENCE

1999 – 2001 Worked with professional services organization that provided systems integration to e-commerce, BBB and Internet startups. “Heavy lifting” middleware, transactional processing, eCRM, Supply Chain Management and Entitlement.  Broad knowledge of multiple e-commerce and application server environments: ATG Dynamo, BroadVision, IBM NetCommerce, IBM WebSphere, Microsoft Site Server, Vignette Story Server, Allaire ColdFusion/Spectra and Interwoven.  Proven rapid-rise in new industry. Successfully launched a surviving dotcom financial exchange—on time and on budget. Continued engagements and business development with Global 2000 corporate executives, defining and building their strategic Internet initiatives to maintain competitive market edge.

1997 – 1999 With my partner Richard Heurtley, Heurtley & Chao Associates researched, built and marketed a high-speed digital image acquisition machine.  The system was licensed to the University of Louisiana Medical Center.

1995 – 1998 Captured, built and delivered three contracts with Quinton Instrument Company for major releases of their FlagShip Cardiac Monitoring Product, totaling $18 million in T&M and royalties. I ran an independent engineering department within Quinton—providing my own team of engineers and QA—research, product definition, requirements gathering, recruiting (both internal and subcontractors,) vendor relations, design, technical architect, QA, compliance, documentation, training and deployment.  During the same period, I also negotiated several smaller projects involving Quinton's other product lines.  Engaged with CEO and SVP of Marketing and Engineering.

1993 Recruited by the NEC's SVP charge of European marketing and sales for Massively Parallel Data Systems. Provided technical consultation to the presidents and CEOs of NEC’s clients in Northern Europe who were considering multimillion-dollar purchases of TaraData machines. Firms included Rover Ltd, Arjoh, Robo Bank and Llydd's Bank.

1990 – 1993 Captured and delivered $12mm in contracts with International Resort Management. Built an IT department from scratch, providing equipment, networking, software and custom programming to tie together seven resorts in the Canary Islands. The department integrated sales and operations, provided reservations, POS, housekeeping, and maintenance. I replaced their international back-end system with Platinum and built a WAN linking their offices in London and the Islands.  Worked with local government agencies and companies where communications infrastructure did not previously exist.  Built custom hotel management software package for front desk, reservations, PBS, POS, housekeeping and maintenance. Recruited subcontractors stationed on the Island. Helped IRM recruit from an international pool of technical talent for their permanent IT staff. Contact was with IRM’s Board of Supervisors, the general manager of CI resorts and the hotel managers at each resort.

1985 – 1999 Acquired various T&M contracts for professional services involving R&D designing and technical skills. Many engagements were conducted simultaneously, often involving uncharted technologies that must be mastered “on the fly.”  I also provided the recruitment and management of subcontractors for many projects.
