SAMPLE RESUME
Nonprofit Administrator
I'm a seasoned administrator
with over ten years of experience in writing, project management,
customer service and other administrative projects. I've spent
the last decade committed to making a difference in the lives
of others: I'm a dedicated community servant with solid professional
and volunteer experience in educational, developmental and
GLBT settings. I'm currently seeking a senior administrative
position at an organization where I can contribute my technical
writing and project management skills -- preferably while
wearing several different hats.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE &
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Administrative
My approach to running an office is simple, efficient
and direct: I analyze existing systems, determine where waste
is being generated, develop an easy plan for streamlining
data and processes, and then implement this plan with a minimum
of disruption in the daily operations of the organization
and its employees. I tend to do this whereever I'm employed
-- I don't like wasting time that could be better spent in
creative pursuit of the organization's objectives. My administrative
experience includes the following accomplishments:
- Supervised data entry clerk
and several administrative volunteers.
- Created and implementing
new filing systems and data cleanup processes for four offices.
- Overhauled fundraising and
donor-relations departmental policies.
- Managed numerous direct
mail campaigns, donor acknowledgments and other bulk mailings.
- Trained volunteer receptionists
on greeting visitors and fielding confidential phone inquiries.
- Served as substitute receptionist
at 100-person workplace.
Writing & Communications
My communications experience encompasses most types of professional
and business writing, including technical writing, grant writing,
journalism, media presentations, marketing, internal company
communications and creative writing. Some of my writing projects
included the following:
- Wrote, edited and designed
quarterly newsletters and weekly bulletins.
- Developed technical procedure
manuals about donation processing, database reporting and
other administrative functions.
- Created and distributed
event flyers, staff and faculty memos and precise meeting
minutes.
- Wrote monthly column for
local Santa Cruz newspaper.
- Wrote successful grant
proposal for independent book project.
- Served as plenary speaker
at the National Women’s Studies Association conference on
women’s creativity.
Project Management
As a volunteer and development director for several nonprofit
organizations, project management was a daily way of life.
To be successful in this respect, I've developed excellent
communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational
skills, a precise eye for detail, and a proven ability for
resource allocation and management. Some of my most interesting
projects included:
- Directed karaoke fundraiser
and drawing that resulted in unprecedented financial support.
- Initiated and produced
successful 100-person fundraising dinner for independent
book project.
- Managed vendor relations
for 33rd Annual San Francisco Wine Auction &
Tasting fundraiser.
- Created and presented event-planning
guide for staff.
- Acted as curator for group
art show at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
- Organized, planned and
provided outreach for "unlearning" racism and
homophobia workshops.
Computer Skills
I'm fluent in a number of different programs, including
MS Word, Excel, FileMaker Pro, PhotoShop, PageMaker, Microsoft
Publisher, Eudora, Outlook Express, Access, PowerPoint, Quark,
Adobe PageMill, and WordPerfect. I'm very friendly with Macintosh
and PC platforms and I have extensive experience with Internet
research and guerilla marketing. I've accomplished the following:
- Designed, created and wrote
documentation for relational FileMaker Pro and Excel databases.
- Maintained web site and
consulted with designers on web site improvements.
- Created and implemented
company-wide data-naming conventions.
