SFSTATION REVIEW
Potrero Brewing
Company

Love
If you happen to already work nearby and
haven't been to the Potrero Brewing Company yet, get your butt over
there. Cheaper than nearby Gordon's House of Fine Eats, the Potrero
Brewing Company offers decent food at reasonable prices, in a
not-yet-trendy atmosphere that didn't annoy us at all. The beer is
yummy, the bar food is delicious, the networking is copious, the
pool tables are numerous and the staff is extremely responsive. In
other words, the Potrero Brewing Company is an ideal spot for an
after-work happy hour.
But if you happen to be
there for lunch or dinner, you'll have a good time, too. Our dinner
favorite was the Grilled Mahi Mahi, which was accompanied by a
delicious gratin of potato and Jerusalem artichoke. The appetizers
were great too: the spring rolls were fresh and crisp and the
arugula & frisee salad had a delightful, tangy dressing we found
ourselves mopping up with the freshly-baked bread that was in
plentiful supply. For lunch, both the Reuben and the Grilled
Horseradish-Crusted Tuna Sandwich sounded better than they tasted,
but we found the salads outstanding and enormous. Lots of veggie
options too: in addition to the greens, the lunch menu features a
veggie burger and a pressed vegetarian sandwich. Desserts are
uninspired, but tasty-we were a little frightened of the S'more
Sundae, but our chocolate walnut pie was thoroughly satisfying.
But let's stay focused: go
with a group and pig out on the bar food. The Yukon Gold Potato
Skins are a personal favorite, but we're never disappointed by the
Crispy Calamari and Rock Shrimp, the Brewer's Pizza or the
Garlic-Herb Fries. And remember, this is a brewery: while the wine
list is skimpy and unattractive, the beer is pretty darned good, if
a little lighter than we're used to. We found the IPA and ESB very
satisfying, and the porter and stout quite user-friendly. Try the
beer sampler: for $5, you can taste a hefty mouthful or two of
everything they're currently serving.
